1 July marks the International Day for Protection of Children. For several years, Latvia has occupied a high position in the European Union on issues related to childhood trauma.
On 17 May this year, for the second time in Latvia, an interactive educational event, “Knowledgeable and Safe”, was organised by the Latvian Pediatric Association, Riga Stradiņš University and the Riga City Council Welfare Department.
The event was organised before schools' summer vacations to educate children (aged 3-12) and parents on outdoor safety in the summer, on safety in and near water, and on safety at various playgrounds. Children and parents were also educated on how to provide first aid and how to avoid injuries or accidents.
One of the contributors to the interactive event "Knowledgeable and Safe" was also Oribalt Rīga, helping to organise the awards for the event’s participants. Hopefully such measures will help raise public awareness and childhood trauma in Latvia will decrease.
